• Another dial up test

For some reason whenever I try to post via one of my test dial up connections it always craps out mid way through. Let's see if this one works. I'm connected at 57,600 and things seem stable. I don't know for sure but I suspect the majority of the delay in typing, which causes the connection to feel, for lack of a better term "unstable" is down to the SEXPOTS program which allows you to use a dial up connection with modern Synchronet -- you dial in, and that program creates a telnet connection to the BBS, thus acting as a bridge. It actually works really well. Also, wow, I'm still connected. This is a first. Cool.

Okay, time to publish this rambling post before I lose connection!

And here we go with a follow up test. I'm curious how long I could actually remain online like this, as it seems 57,600 is the "perfect" connection speed for this setup.

For those curious, I'm using my trust PowerBook G3 to dial in. My connection is currently routing through a POTS line at work to my home line, which is served through Magic Jack. Once I dial the home line I have a small phone switch box which acts to route calls, and in this case I route them to the server and that's that - SEXPOTS manages the phone line and that's that.

Well 'll be, this held up the entire time. Neat.
