• Cleaned my Mouse. That's neat, right?

I use a Logitech M510 wireless mouse as my main rodential input device. It's nice, but I noticed during Kerbal Space Program that a few buttons were a little iffy at times, namely right click and hold.

I decided "screw it, let's clean this thing and see what happens" and so I did just that. When you remove the batteries there are 2 easy to access screws in the battery compartment. Take those out and then you gently pry the case apart and you're in. I doused the thing in alcohol and blew it out with a low grade compressor I have and, after a moment, gave it a try. Everything works a treat.

Got rid of some of the usual scroll wheel grime too, as that was a mess and a half, and made sure to give even those buttons for the scroll wheel which, beyond middle-click I never really use, a good clean. Even that middle click was a little off but now it's back to like new.

Amazing how much gunk can build up hidden in even a modern mouse in just a few years of ownership.

.......and in taking it to work to deep clean it in an ultrasonic cleaner something went wrong and now it's as dead as my friends marriage.

    Ah well. Live and learn.

Goes to show that sometimes half-assing something really /is/ the way to do it, lol. Speaking of which though, I would recommend semi-frequent mouse cleaning to just about anyone. Especially people with pets. Scroll wheels collect cat hair like you wouldn't believe.

It really is a prime example of me never learning when enough is enough. Haha! _____

Scroll wheels are also often greased to avoid wear on the side opposite
the rotary encoder, which is what will collect the most gunk. Make sure
to apply some silicone lube after cleaning it out if you don't want to
wear that thing right out playing your favorite FPS. :)
