• PPP dialup internet access.

    From Nkeck72@nkeck72@finalzone.ddns.net (nkeck72) to Local.Tinkering on Tuesday, March 09, 2021 12:04:00
I've been thinking for a while about potentially starting a PPP dialup
access line for old computers that lack ethernet in the nearish future.
I'm curious what sort of demand there would be from the average vintage computer enthusiast.

I would offer unfettered 56K access, and with no ads (unlike NetZero).
It would be a simple PPP connection, so only a connect script and no
client software outside what's already provided with your OS would be
required (notable exception: MacOS, which would require MacPPP & MacTCP
or Open Transport). I would be running this off of a single line and
single modem with a dedicated router machine running the show, and you
would be NATed from the bare internet for your own protection (though
direct access can be arranged). I've not decided if the costs involved
would be large enough to require charging a fee, but if I do charge
something it would be at break-even since I'm not looking to really
scale this up or profit off of it.

Let me know what you think. If anyone has any input on this feel free
to reply or send me a mail.

I like what I'm seeing here. I've been wanting to do the same with Final Zone, but just can't quite figure out the best way to go about it.

At this stage I think I could set up something on Evergreen-3... I can actually set up virtual T1 connections in Asterisk, soooo...... hmn....
