    This is a new one for me, though I imagine feature creep killed it
    (like tends to go in many of these older protocols). I'll have to give
    it a shot sometime if I ever get another Windows 98 installation up and running.

    There is a woman in the UK maintaining and actively developing a modern version of a Hotline client and Server, so any modern Windows system can connect without issue. Still compatable with old servers / clients, of course, but with new stuff tacked on, as one would expect.

    Final Zone Hotline access is a bit limited - Synchronet has only a partial implimentation of the protocol, but it is useful enough for its own form of live chat as well as message browsing.

    It's... something... Again, I rather like the idea on a whole, but its such a niche thing it will never really get anywhere. I dare say there are more active GOPHER users than HOTLINE.
