I feel bad for the artists that relied on ello to show off their work.

I don't think artists relied on that platform to share their work... use it? Sure, but they very likely used anything and everything else as well.

Anyone who thought Ello would be the only place to share such is doing the internet wrong...

From what I could tell, it was used for art and other creative work by quite a few people. Not sure if it was the primary place that was used, but it was still a place.
